ELECTION SPOTLIGHT: Shaun Walton

In the weeks and days leading up to the May 5 election The Hunsbury Herald will be focusing on the candidates hoping to serve their respective councils in our area.
We have offered each candidate in our region - in both
South Northamptonshire District Council and Northampton Borough Council - the chance to write 150-200 words saying why they should be elected.
Next up is South Northamptonshire District Council candidate for Bugbrooke & Heyfords, Shaun Walton.

Name: Shaun Walton
Party: Green Party
Ward; Bugbrooke & Heyfords

My family have lived in Bugbrooke for many generations. I lived there for 25 years and also worked there. I moved away for 13 years and have been back in Bugbrooke for five years.
I've mainly worked in the motor vehicle trade, being a lorry mechanic. I've also had jobs in engineering, as a lorry driver and am currently a private hire driver.
I have been involved in the many political campaigns on a minor scale, including NO2ID, SPEAK and AV. I was also involved in the Save Our Soil campaign against over development a few years ago and stood in district elections four years ago.
I have a wife and two kids, one of whom is presently studying for her A levels.
Main issues of concern locally are the threat development proposes to the environment. I set up a website two years ago to draw local attention to this (http://www.bugbrookesaysno.org/)
It seems to me that profit for developers and landowners is prioritised over the wishes of the electorate who are mainly opposed to unsustainable development. If we must have it, why not some social housing rather than affordable housing that, ironically, young couples can't afford?
I have also been concerned about threats to the bus service that have now fortunately receded a little, and the ongoing threat of cuts to mobile libraries. I will be opposing service cuts and privatisations.
I fear humanities environmental assault both locally and in the wider world and, as a councillor, will always strive to encourage a more sustainable and harmonious existence with our surroundings by encouraging public transport initiatives, cutting pollution and promoting renewable energy.
