ELECTION SPOTLIGHT: Michael Hill

In the weeks and days leading up to the May 5 election The Hunsbury Herald will be focusing on the candidates hoping to serve their respective councils in our area.
We have offered each candidate in our region - in both
South Northamptonshire District Council and Northampton Borough Council - the chance to write 150-200 words saying why they should be elected.
Next up is Northampton Borough Council candidate for Nene Valley, Michael Hill.

Name: Michael Hill

Party: Conservatives

Ward: Nene Valley

Michael Hill has represented the Nene Valley Ward on the borough council since 1999 and was Mayor of Northampton during the municipal year 2009-10.
He currently serves on the planning committee and is a member of the shadow cabinet.
Since Michael moved to Northampton in the 1990s, he has been deeply involved in the life of the town and county. He has served on the county council and the County Probation Board.
He has been Chairman of Governors of one of the town's primary schools and a trustee of the Workbridge Centre for young people with learning difficulties.
Michael is a member of the Rotary Club of Northampton West.
Michael worked for nearly 40 years in journalism and public relations in a career that took him from the Falkland Islands to Saudi Arabia, and involved him in the organisation of many events of national importance.
Michael and his wife Margaret live in East Hunsbury. He has an adult son from his first marriage and a stepson and stepdaughter, both of whom are married with children.
Away from politics Michael and his wife enjoy visiting stately homes and heritage railways, photography and walking their dog in the countryside.
