A new community centre is no longer part of plans to extend Tesco Mereway.
The supermarket giant first introduced plans to expand the store in July 2010, but has already been forced to modify its proposals.
In March this year, planning documents revealed how plans to increase the store's floorspace from 10,715 sq m to 14,979 sq m had been scrapped. A revised scheme, submitted in 2011, had proposed to reduce the extension by 20 per cent
And in the same month members of Northampton Borough Council's planning and regeneration committee asked Tesco to resubmit the plans again - asking the retailer to consider what impact the development would have on town centre businesses.
Now the company has decided to remove the proposed community centre, replacing it with improvements to the area around the supermarket.
Upgrades to the surrounding road network and extensive landscaping are among the new plans.
The application is likely to be heard by members of the council's planning committe later this year, although the final decision will be made by Northamptonshire Development Corporation.
