ELECTIONS: Make sure you know where to vote

Northampton Borough Council has asked residents to make sure they know where to vote ahead of the forthcoming elections on May 5.
This year's vote will not only determine who will represent the public in the Guildhall for the next four years, but will include a vote in the national referendum on the alternative vote.
But due to changes in the boundaries of the boruogh wards many people will need to cast their vote in different locations from previous elections.
Earlier this year Parliament agreed to a plans that have completely redrawn Northampton's electoral map. Thirty-three new borough wards have been created to replace the previous 23. This means everyone will be casting their vote in a new ward, even if it has the same name as their old ward. For many people their polling station will have moved too.
The council is advising voters to check their poll cards or its website for the location of their polling station.
Interactive maps can also be found at www.northampton.gov.uk/elections
Returning officer David Kennedy said: "It is very important that everyone knows where they should vote and checking your card careful or consulting the website will avoid anyone accidentally going to the wrong place and having to make a second trip to a new location to vote."
