In the run-up to the May 5 election The Hunsbury Herald has have offered each of the election candidates in our region - in both South Northamptonshire District Council and Northampton Borough Council - the chance to write 150-200 words saying why they should be elected.
The latest is borough council candidate for West Hunsbury, Philip Buchan.

Name: Philip Buchan
Party: Christian Peoples Alliance
Ward: West Hunsbury

Having lived in Northampton for nearly 15 years after moving here to study Sociology and Politics and staying down here to as a support worker in Northampton, I felt it was time to give something back to the society that has given me so much.
I was a member of one of the major parties for several years and was disillusioned by the way they watered down, or neglected, their principles in order to gain a share of the power albeit a token one.
What I would do that is different to the other two parties against me is make West Hunsbury part of Northampton and not the neglected annex that’s too far away from the centre to be classed as part of Northampton itself.
I would do this by blocking the town centre comes first policy, changing it for a policy that would bring jobs and expansion to the economy of West Hunsbury by supporting the expansion of Sixfields and Saints grounds which will include retail and leisure facilities for all, not just for sports fans hence bringing pride and prosperity back into the town, by leading the way out of recession which the main parties have put us all in.
