Snow blanket arrives overnight

Snow hits Hunsbury Country Park
The snow finally arrived in Northamptonshire last night, with around three inches falling in Hunsbury and the surrounding area.
It had been predicted to arrive between 7pm and 8pm yesterday (Monday), but despite freezing conditions it held off for several hours.
However, the Met Office issued a severe weather warning for 1.30am this morning and people across the region woke up to a layer of snow.
Northamptonshire County Council's contractors MGWSP opened it's Snow Desk at 6pm yesterday and gritters were out on the county's roads from 7pm.
Temperatures fell as low as minus 6C on the roads overnight, with gritting lorries covering around 1,128 miles across the county.
Cllr Heather Smith, county council cabinet member for highways, minerals and waste, said: “It’s unusual to have such cold weather for such a sustained period in November but our grit barns are well stocked."
The weather is expected to remain cold for the rest of the week with further snow showers expected in the next few days.
