Hunsbury Hill Country Park to benefit from council investment

Hunsbury Country Park

Hunsbury Hill Country Park is among nine parks across the county set to benefit from a £250,000 investment.
The park will receive £30,000 to spend on new play equipment as part of Northampton Borough Council's 'I Love My Park' campaign.
The decision has been welcomed by the Friends of Hunsbury Hill Country Park, which has long campaigned for improvements to play equipment in the area. The group's ten year plan includes the aim of improving play facilities as one of its top priorities and members have been involved in the recent tendering process.
The 'I Love My Park' scheme, which was launched last year, saw neighbourhood co-ordinators and wardens submit ideas for improvements to parks and green spaces.
Following a consultation period the best 40 schemes were put before the council.
The final announcement was made last Tuesday (March 9).
Friends of Hunsbury Hill Country Park chairman Mavis Wilmshurst said: "We have been involved in the whole tendering process, and shortlisting the potential suppliers of the equipment.
"We will continue to be involved with the siting of equipment chosen. Additional equipment will be added to the small play area already in the field closest to the Car Park, and a certain amount of refurbishment to that area.
"Equipment for older children will be sited close by. We are very grateful to the council for giving this money to the Park.
"For many years, the park has suffered from a lack of funding for maintenance and management because it is not one of the towns 'premier parks', so any investment in it from the council is a good thing."
Councillor Trini Crake, council cabinet member for the environment said: "We need to invest in our parks and open spaces if we are too give people across the town continued access to good quality, attractive facilities."
The other parks to benefit from the project are Abington Park, Delapre Park, the Racecourse, Becket's Park, Thornton Park, Olden Road play area, Southfields Playing Field and the play area in Duston's Rochelle Way.

Residents in Hunsbury are also currently being asked to choose between two designs for play equipment in Ladybridge Drive.
The final consultation on the development started on February 16 and will run until March 18, with the two shortlisted plans available to view at www.northampton.gov.uk/consultation
