The show will be opening at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery in June and will also feature the work of young artists from Brambleside Community Primary School in Kettering.
The opportunity for pupils from Brambleside and art students from Caroline Chisholm, based in Wooldale Road, Wootton, to work together came about as part of an arts award that the students are completing.
As part of the project they were given the chance to help younger pupils to get creative and produce artworks inspired by the town’s shoe heritage that use a variety of techniques.
Brambleside pupils paid a visit to Northampton’s world famous shoe collection at the museum for ideas and the culmination of their efforts will form the 'Shoe Impressions' exhibition opening there.
A scrolling digital screen featuring photographs of all of the artworks submitted will accompany the exhibition and everyone taking part will be given a certificate of achievement for their artistic efforts.
Councillor Michael Hill, Northampton Borough Council cabinet member for community engagement and member for Nene Valley, said: "Northampton has a proper pride in its heritage, and the boot and shoe industry was a major part of this.
"It is good that our young people are learning about this heritage in a creative fashion, and I am delighted that Caroline Chisholm and Brambleside schools have come together to produce something that the whole town can visit the museum to enjoy."
Shoe Impressions will be showing at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery from June 11 to August 7. Opening times are Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. Admission is free.
