Police priorities for Northampton South West

Northampton South West police team has issued its latest list of priority action points for East Hunsbury, Nene Valley and West Hunsbury areas.
Among the key issues are parking around schools, litter, nuisance behaviour and fly tipping.
The full list of priorities is as follows:

 East Hunsbury Ward
  • Alleviate parking problems around the primary schools
  • We are still running the ‘School a Week’ scheme in East Hunsbury, Nene Valley and West Hunsbury. Advice on appropriate parking is given to parents.
  • Reduce nuisance around Butts Road and Tesco Mereway. As part of the South West Week of Action our partners from the borough council, county council, Neighbourhood Watch, Resident’s Associations and Police Volunteers joined us in our ‘Putting Communities First’ events at Tesco, Mereway and Sainsbury’s in Gambrel Road. This was a high visibility event that took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday March 21, 22 and 23. We have spoken to shoppers asking for their concerns.
  • Youth workers continue with outreach work in the area signposting young people to appropriate activities.
  • Reduce litter around Tesco, Mereway
  • Awaiting installation of the new bin by Northampton Borough Council. Community Payback have been asked to carry out work to clear the litter around the Tesco area.

Nene Valley Ward
  • Alleviate parking problems around the Primary Schools. We are still running the ‘School a Week’ scheme in East Hunsbury, Nene Valley and West Hunsbury. Advice on appropriate parking is given to parents
  • A fully costed proposal for a school drop off area in a former garage site has been put to Hardingstone Parish Council and Northampton Borough Council to secure funding. The parish has agreed to provide £5,000, and we await feedback on whether S106 funding will be available via NBC.
  • Tackling fly tipping along the lane from Wootton Fields to Great Houghton. The borough council continues to monitor the situation and will pursue any prosecutions where evidence allows.

West Hunsbury Ward
  • Reduce car parking/congestion associated with Hunsbury Park Primary School, Camp Hill and St Lukes Primary School, St Crispin. We are still running the ‘School a Week’ scheme in East Hunsbury, Nene Valley and West Hunsbury. Advice on appropriate parking is given to parents. Our Partnership Co-ordinator, Pete Staffell, is also seeking funding for improvements that will act as a longer term measure
  • Reduce youth nuisance in Upton. We continue to carry out regular patrols of the area. Youth workers are conducting outreach work in the area signposting young people to more appropriate activities
