In the weeks and days leading up to the May 5 election The Hunsbury Herald will be focusing on the candidates hoping to serve their respective councils in our area.
We have offered each candidate in our region - in both South Northamptonshire District Council and Northampton Borough Council - the chance to write 150-200 words saying why they should be elected.
Next up is Northampton Borough Council's Independent candidate for Nene Valley, Laim Costello.

Name: Liam Costello
Party: Independent
Ward: Nene Valley

I am a local resident of Wootton where I live with my wife and two children. I am standing as your independent candidate because I don’t feel that any of the main parties represent the interests of ordinary people any more. I believe that local people should be represented by local councillors, and am one of only two of your five candidates that live in this ward.
At a time when the living standards of ordinary families are under attack from the governments’ austerity policies as a result of the banking crisis, Nene Valley residents need a local voice that can speak out for you on the issues that concern you.
Who was it that promised you that the NHS would be safe in their hands, and that they would not increase VAT? The Conservatives
Who was it that pledged that they would scrap university fees? The LibDems
Both parties have a track record of telling you one thing to get your vote, and then doing something different once elected. This town needs a council of independently minded people free from the shackles of party dictate, who will act in your interest; rather that the interest of their parties.
Vote Independent on May 5.
