We have offered each candidate in our region - in both South Northamptonshire District Council and Northampton Borough Council - the chance to write 150-200 words saying why they should be elected.
Next up is Northampton Borough Council candidate for Upton, Alan Bottwood.
Name: Alan Bottwood
Party: Conservatives
Ward: Upton
Alan Bottwood is one of our two borough council candidates for Upton Ward in the forthcoming elections in May. Alan has lived in Northamptonshire since 1963, is married to Kath and has lived on the St Crispin’s Estate for the last five years.
The majority of his career has been in the building industry, having had various roles including the position of construction director for one local company. Alan is currently self-employed within the renovation business but prior to this spent the previous 11 years as group facilities manager for Travis Perkins at their head office on Lodge Farm Estate.
Alan initiated the local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme as a result of some local issues which he wanted to resolve. Following on from this initiative, he was co-opted onto Upton Parish Council and his current roles
are vice chairman, and chairman of the planning sub-committee.
He has made contact with the three local Residents’ Associations and attends many of their meetings as the Parish Council Representative. Alan is currently working with the local police and youth workers to establish
a Youth Forum which will be attached to the parish council.
The prime objective of this forum is to engage with the local young people within the parish to work towards the provision of local amenities which will stimulate their interest, and for them to make an active contribution to the development of the area.
Alan is very passionate about the area in which he lives and gives full support to David Cameron’s statement that many local issues should be dealt with at the local level with less intrusion from central government.
