Wednesday, December 22: Snow update

azbmp.jpg
Snow starting falling in the Hunsbury region after 5am this morning and has covered most of the area in a short space of time. Met Office and county council experts predicted heavy snowfall last night, with the worst of it expected after midnight.
In fact the downfall did not materialise until the early hours of the morning, but residents can expect to wake up to a very white Christmas.
As much as six inches of snow was expected with Northamptonshire County Council's snowdesk co-ordinating it's 27 gritters throughout the night.
The council has already used more than 6,000 tonnes of salt on the county's roads.
But much of the work they will have done may be wasted as the fresh snow lands on top of sand and grit.
London Midland trains issued a new timetable for it's Northampton to Euston route early this morning.
The new Northampton - London route will see the removal of trains from Tring, resulting in more stops for Northampton passengers and longer carriages in an attempt to prevent problems caused by trying to couple together trains with ice damaged couplers.
But the heavy snow will have had train bosses thinking again, with passengers advised to check the website, call 0844 811 0133 or follow @londonmidland on Twitter before travelling.
