Litter pick shows love for Hunsbury Park

A group of adults with learning disabilities are showing how much they love Hunsbury Hill Country Park by doing weekly litter picks there.
The group who are based at Camp Hill Community Centre get together every Friday as part of a course provided by Northampton College under the guidance of tutor Clare Grant.
After being kitted up with litter-picking gear provided by Northampton Borough Council's parks team, the group head into Hunsbury Park to clear up the litter.
The litter pick is one of many projects happening in parks and green spaces around the town as part of the council's 'I Love My Park' campaign, which encourages individuals and community groups to show how much they love their parks.
On Friday (December 3) Councillor Trini Crake, cabinet member for the environment, will be going along to meet them and thank them for their efforts.
She said: "We can all do something to show our parks how much we love them and I am very pleased to have this opportunity to meet this group. They clearly love their park very much."
Mrs Grant said: "It is good that we can make a positive contribution to the park. Litter picking is something all the group enjoys doing, it is a healthy occupation and it gives us a chance to spend time in this lovely ancient woodland.
"As well as picking up litter, the group has the chance to meet a variety of dogs and their owners and see squirrels. Last week they even saw a green woodpecker and some long tailed tits."
Individuals or groups wanting to know more about what they can do to show they love their parks can call Northampton Borough Council's parks team on 01604 838281.
