Saints are 'greedy' says Lib Dem campaigner

A prominent Liberal Democrat campaigner has blasted bosses at Northampton Saints as 'greedy'.
Jill Hope, who heads the West Hunsbury Focus team - a regular newsletter updating residents on the projects undertaken by the party in the region - also accused the rugby club's chief executive Allan Robson of making statements that are 'simply not true'.
The outburst comes in the most recent edition of the Focus newsletter in an article entitled, 'The Saints - The Truth About Those Planning Issues.' In it Mrs Hope, from Milton Malsor and the editor of Focus, writes: 'Talking to local residents I frequently come across people who support our local rugby team.
'They have said to me that the Lib Dems don't want to help the club.
'Nothing could be further from the truth. I doubt if you could find keener rugby supporters than many of our councillors, including the leader and several cabinet members.
'Allan Robson, the chief executive of the Saints, says the council is the barrier to development of Franklin's Gardens.
'This is simply not true.
'The borough council says it really wants to work with the Saints. It has been making that clear since November 2009.
'The recent live debate made it clear that the issue is money. The Saints want to be given the car park so they can sell it to Asda. The car park doesn't belong to the council.
'At last the truth is out there. We all want the new stand built. Stop being greedy and just get on with it.'
Mrs Hope's verbal volley is the latest exchange in a long running argument between the Saints and Northampton Borough Council.
The club believes the authority is concentrating too much of its time and money on the town centre, neglecting the development of Franklin's Gardens in the process.
The council deny these claims.
