Tesco in Mereway |
Motorists are currently suffering from increased pricing following the New Year VAT rise to 20 per cent and the ever increasing price of oil.
These increases have seen the price of petrol at the pumps hit a new record high with the cost of filling a 50-litre petrol tank up by about £10 compared to December 2009. According to website PetrolPrices.com the average price of unleaded petrol within a five mile radius of the NN4 postcode is 129.3p per litre, with even the cheapest outlets charging 127.9p per litre.
And motorists filling up at the most expensive garages can expect to pay as much as 133.9p per litre.
Diesel costs an average of 133.9p per litre in the same area, with a lowest price of 131.9p and a high of 136.9p.
The region is slightly more expensive than the average UK price of 128.4p per litre for unleaded and 133.0p per litre for diesel.
The pain of motoring is not expected to end there with the Government planning to introduce a further 1p hike in petrol duty in April.
The move could see prices rise by as much as a further 5p per litre.
Members of the Road Haulage Association have already expressed their concern at the situation.
In a joint statement between the RHA and the Freight Transport Association, they said: "It’s time that something was done.
"To that end the two organisations that look after the interests of British hauliers have decided that enough is enough and in an unprecedented move they are putting up a united front and are both firmly behind the campaign FairFuel UK."
