Northants charity's millions for Haiti

More than £5.3m has been donated to a charity supporting people in Haiti.
The money has been raised by supporters of the Northampton Diocese of the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) in the year since the country was hit by a massive earthquake.
The 7.0-magnitude 'quake hit Haiti's capital Port au Prince on January 12, 2010 killing more than 230,000 people and leaving 1.5m homeless. CAFOD's supporters throughout the Diocese, which covers Beds, Bucks and Slough as well as Northamptonshire, have since donated £5.3m.
Head of huminitarian programmes at the charity Matthew Carter said: "There is no quick fix to coping with the scale of this disaster, but it is vital Haitians are allowed to be at the heart of this massive task of recovery, so that they play their part in bringing about a less vulnerable and more equitable nation."
And Diocese spokesman Frank Sudlow added: "The tireless fundraising of supporters in response to this terrible disaster had shown that even when individuals and families are facing hard financial times, they can still be astonishingly generous."
CAFOD-funded aid has helped provide tents and shelters, kitchen kits including pots, pans and cooking utensils, shower blocks, toilets, a safe water supply, medical supplies, health education, disaster risk education and even permanent homes that are resistant to earthquakes and hurricanes.
