Police chief coy on spending review impact

Northampton's top cop says it is too early to say how today's comprehensive spending review announcements will affect the force.
Chief Constable Adrian Lee admitted there are tough times ahead, but said the full extent of Chancellor George Osborne's cuts are not yet known.
Mr Lee said: "At this stage it is too early to tell how the comprehensive spending review is likely to impact on our force, until we receive clearer direction from the Home Office as to how and to what extent the cuts will effect individual police forces.
"Over the next few weeks we will be examining the detail of today's announcement to gain a better understanding of its impact."
He said £4.6million had already been saved from the 2010/11 budget, while structural changes will result in a further £2m of savings.
But he admitted that "huge challenges" lie ahead and that "officer and staff numbers will be affected."
He added that frontline services would be protected whatever the outcome.
