Power-saving devices to prevent fires

Northamptonshire County Council's fire and rescue service is distributing power-saving devices which it says will make homes safer and protect the environment.
The TV PowerDown units automatically switch off electrical items which have been plugged into the unit, such as a DVD player, when the television is turned off.
They have been supplied as part of a joint scheme between the service and energy supplier E.ON UK. County council member for communities Cllr Andre de Gonzalez Savage said: "These are really clever devices, allowing you
to switch off your TV and attached appliances with one remote, therefore saving electricity, money and the environment and most importantly, reducing the likelihood of an electric fire."
The units can be picked up by visiting any of the county's libraries.
