Pensioner targeted in distraction burglary

An 83-year-old pensioner fell victim to a callous distraction burglar who claimed to be a policeman.
The woman, from Stockwell Avenue, Wootton, was believed to be the man's second victim on Tuesday night (November 9)
Northamptonshire Police are linking her robbery to an early incident in Hackleton.
The man knocked on the victim's door between 7pm and 7.30pm, claiming to be a police officer. He carried out a brief search of the property before leaving with a small amount of cash.
Earlier in the evening, a 75-year-old woman in nearby The Crescent in Hackleton was targeted by a man who stole a handbag.
In both cases the burglar claimed to be a police officer and each victim gave similar descriptions.
He is described as white, aged about 30, around 5ft 10ins tall and of stocky build.
The cases are the latest in a spate of distraction burglaries in Northamptonshire.
Police are investigation two more incidents from Monday in Bricketts Lane in Flore and Claughton Road, Northampton.
In these instances two burglars claimed to be from Anglian Water carried out the crimes.
And last Friday two more distraction burglaries took place in Cosgrove and Eastern Avenue South.
Police have issued a warning for people to be extra vigilant.
Members of the public are reminded that if someone calls at the door who they do not know or are not expecting, do not open the door to them.
People should ask callers to verify details if they claim to be from an organisation, and if they claim to be a police officer, ask them for their name and number and ring 999 to ensure these details can be checked.
Anyone concerned by a caller at their door should also ring 999 and report those concerns.
Witnesses to any of the above burglaries should call police on 03000 111 222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
