The borough council is hoping to emulate last year's Gold award at the East Midlands in Bloom competition - in which judges praised its superb parks and green spaces, flourishing allotments and community gardens and the high standard of floral features in the town centre.
On Tuesday (March 29), members of the Castle Environmental Group, children from Spring Lane Children’s Centre and staff and students from Moulton College will be joining Northampton Borough Council staff to mark the official launch of Northampton in Bloom.
People can sign up to take part in Northampton in Bloom using a form on the borough council website or by contacting the Parks Team on 01604 837671.
The following categories are availble to enter:
Best front garden
Best back garden
Best school garden
Best sunflower grown in a school garden (under-11s only)
Best hotel/pub garden or display
Best retail/commercial premises
Best hanging basket/container
Best community project
Closing date for entries is Friday, June 10 and the finalists will form part of Northampton’s entry into the East Midlands in Bloom competition when it is judged later on in the summer.
Council director of environment and culture Julie Seddon said: "Northampton in Bloom generated such a lot of excitement last year.
"We were proud to win as our Gold award reflected the hard work and enthusiasm of so many people right across the community.
"We are encouraging more people to get involved and hope to create even more beautiful spaces across the town this year."
