Borough council 'among best in Britain'

The borough council has been highly commended at the local government awards.
The Liberal Democrat-run authority was honoured in the Council Group of the Year section, won by Sheffield City Council.
Council leader Councillor Brian Hoare picked up the award at the Liberal Democrat Spring Conference in Sheffield. It recognised the administrations efforts in turning Northampton Borough Council from a poor council in 2004 to a situation in 2010 where it was praised by the Local Government Association - LGA - as one of the most improved councils in the country.
Cllr Hoare said: "It is very good that the work of the Liberal Democrats in improving borough council services for residents in Northampton has been recognised nationally."
Liberal Democrat leader on the LGA, Cllr. Richard Kemp added: "Northampton was a big star in this year’s Council Group of the Year awards, winning Highly Commended in the overall category ‘Council Group of the Year’.
"This marks the Liberal Democrat Group in Northampton as one of the very best performing groups in Britain."
