Shop boss find eight grand for food breaches

A shop owner from Wootton has been fined almost £8,000 for food safety breaches including selling fish which had been left uncovered for two days.
According to a court report in yesterday's Northampton Chronicle & Echo, Angelina Annan-Ulrich, 48, from Brooks Close Wootton Fields pleaded guilty at Northampton Magistrates' Court on Friday to ten counts relating to food hygiene and storage of food.
Other offences included failing to control an infestation of mice at Makola Market in Abington Square, Northampton.
Mrs Annan-Ulrich is the managing director of the store, which is managed by her husband Joseph.
The shop was first visited by Northampton Borough Council environmental health officers in August 2009 and was given a schedule of required work to carry out to comply with food standards hygiene.
But when officers visited again in January this year they found evidence of mice in the storerooms and ground floor, waste piling up in the back of the shop attracting maggots and vermin, and dirt and food debris on equipment and shelving.
Presiding magistrate Derek Loud ordered Annan-Ulrich to pay £7,915.
