The RSPCA has launched an investigation into the deaths of two much loved dogs.
The animals were killed in separate poisoning incidents according to a report on the Northampton Chronicle & Echo website.
Catherine Powell, 34, from Grange Park, saw her pet Staffordshire Bull Terrier Flex become violently sick on Sunday, August 15. He was taken to the vets, but died just four days later.
A preliminary post mortem found the animals had died after its liver failed, but the vet had also found cancerous tumours so it was initially thought this could have been a cause of its symptoms.
However, on September 8, Catherine’s second dog, Oscar, also a Staffie and three years old, also started to become violently sick. It was taken to the same vet but again died two days later.
Another post mortem was carried out and it was found that it too had exactly the same symptoms as Flex. The vet then advised that the cause of death for both dogs was poisoning.
Mrs Powell told the Chron: “It is absolutely heartbreaking to think that both my dogs could have been poisoned deliberately.”
RSPCA inspector Damien Wooliscroft urged anyone with information to call 0300 1234 999.
