Police ask for public opinion on budget spend

Hunsbury residents are being given the chance to have their say on how and where Northamptonshire Police spends its money.
The force is under pressure to make savings to help clear the national debt, with the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition poised to make heavy cuts across the public sector.
It is now asking residents how they would make cuts to the budget over the next three or four years.
A budget simulator has been set up to demonstrate how money can be allocated.
It allows total funds of £131.7million, and residents can say if they would like to increase or decrease spending on items such as intelligence gathering, local policing and specialist operations.
Budget decisions need to be made by the Police Authority by February 2011, with the closing date for public participation being January 5.
